Aldi predicts over180,000 mince pies to fly from shelves in the first week of launch.

And Northerners are found to be the UK’s biggest mince pie punters

Despite Christmas still being three months away, the festive season has already arrived as Aldi’s anticipated range of delicious mince pies hit the shelves.

To celebrate the first mince pies of the season landing in stores, Aldi is giving shoppers the chance to win one of a 1,000 £5 vouchers. To be in with a chance of getting their hands on these Christmas must-haves, hopefuls should simply email their name and email address to freealdimincepies@clarioncomms.co.uk.

After the supermarket saw over seven million mince pies fly from their shelves last year, 2022, Aldi is expecting over180,000 pies to be snapped up in the first week of launch alone! Most of which are likely to be bagged in northern parts of the UK, with northern Aldi shoppers found to be the biggest mince pie fans last year.

And with prices starting at just 21p per pie, Aldi is ensuring lucky winners are fully stocked this Christmas with the free voucher equating to over 20 pies per person. With 1,000 vouchers up for grabs, this equates to 24,000 FREE mince pies!

Julie Ashfield, MD of Buying at Aldi, said: “We know mince pies are a Christmas staple for our shoppers, so we’re delighted to be able to guarantee an abundant supply for 1,000 successful winners ahead of the festive season!”

Customers can use their voucher to try Aldi’s range of mince pies landing in stores, including the NEW Holly Lane Iced Mince Pies (£1.39, 6 pack) short crust pastry cases filled with mincemeat, topped with icing, or the classic Holly Lane Deep Filled Mince Pies (£1.25, 6 pack) working out at just 21p per pie, a festive bargain!

Rediscovering the True Meaning of Christmas: A Guide to Reconnect with the Spirit of Christmas

In our modern world, the Christmas season often gets overshadowed by consumerism, materialism, and the hustle and bustle of our daily lives.

We may find ourselves caught up in the frenzy of Christmas shopping, decorating, and party planning, but in the midst of all this, it's all too easy to forget the real meaning of Christmas. However, it's never too late to reclaim the essence of this cherished season. In this blog post, we'll explore some heartfelt ways to get the real meaning of Christmas back.

Reflect on the Origin

To reconnect with the true meaning of Christmas, it's important to reflect on its origin. Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, who is considered by Christians as the Saviour of the world. Take time to read the nativity story from the Bible and contemplate the significance of Jesus' birth. Understanding the spiritual foundation of Christmas can help you regain its true essence.

Practice Gratitude

Christmas is a time for gratitude and giving. Instead of focusing solely on what you want to receive, take a moment to appreciate what you have and consider how you can give back to others. Whether it's through acts of kindness, volunteering, or donating to charity, practicing gratitude can bring you closer to the heart of Christmas.

Spend Quality Time with Loved Ones

Amidst the seasonal chaos, it's easy to lose sight of the importance of spending time with loved ones. Make a conscious effort to connect with family and friends. Share stories, laughter, and make memories that will last a lifetime. These moments of togetherness are at the core of what makes Christmas special.

Embrace the Spirit of Giving

Instead of viewing gift-giving as a chore, approach it as an opportunity to show love and appreciation for those you care about. Thoughtful, meaningful gifts don't have to be expensive; they can be handcrafted or chosen with care to reflect the recipient's interests and needs.

Simplify Your Celebrations

In our consumer-driven society, it's easy to get caught up in the pressure to have the biggest and brightest decorations or the most extravagant parties. Consider simplifying your Christmas celebrations. Focus on what truly matters: the people you're with and the love and joy you share.

Create Meaningful Traditions

Traditions are a wonderful way to connect with the past and create lasting memories. Establish meaningful traditions that resonate with your family and values. Whether it's carolling in the neighbourhood, baking biscuits, or volunteering together, these traditions can help you reconnect with the spirit of Christmas.

Reflect and Meditate

Take some time during the Christmas season to reflect and meditate on the deeper meaning of Christmas. Consider the virtues of love, compassion, and forgiveness that are associated with this holiday. Personal reflection can help you internalise these values and live them more fully throughout the year.

Give Back to the Community

One powerful way to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas is to give back to your community. Consider volunteering at a local shelter, food bank, or charity organisation. Helping those in need can remind you of the importance of selflessness and generosity.

Conclusion

Christmas is a time to celebrate love, compassion, and the birth of Jesus Christ. While it's easy to get lost in the commercial aspects of the holiday, by taking deliberate steps to reflect, give back, and spend quality time with loved ones, you can reconnect with the real meaning of Christmas. Let this holiday season be a time of spiritual growth and a rekindling of the values that make Christmas truly special.

Kokedama Advent wreath

For this Kokedama Advent wreath, you will need a log slice, red mini poinsettias, moss, gold craft wire, three taper candles, three candle holders on spikes, wooden kebab sticks, a pine branch, a cordless drill and secateurs. Tip: The number of poinsettias you need will depend on the size of your log slice.

Festive Winterberry bouquet. A striking feature: this festive bouquet of winterberry, grasses and cut red poinsettias will definitely not go unnoticed. This design has a long vase life and is simple to make in just a few steps. In addition to the florals mentioned, you will need a large vase, small test tubes, craft wire, ribbon and secateurs.

Step 1: Attach the test tubes to the winterberry stems with craft wire.

Step 2: Tie the winterberry stems and grasses into a bouquet and secure it with the red ribbon.

Step 3: Fill the test tubes with water, insert the cut poinsettias into them and place the bouquet in the vase with fresh water. Tip: The poinsettias will stay fresh for up to two weeks if, immediately after cutting, you first dip the cut ends in hot water (about 60°C) for a few seconds and then in cold water.

Winterberry stems and cut poinsettias have a particularly long vase life if they have fresh water regularly. Faded poinsettias can also be easily replaced in this winter bouquet.

A striking feature: this festive bouquet of winterberry stems, grasses and cut red poinsettias will not go unnoticed. This bouquet has a long vase life and is simple to make in just a few steps. In addition to the florals mentioned, you will need small test tubes, craft wire and ribbon.

Step 1: Using a drill, make holes in the upper edge of the bowl at intervals of about 5cm. Make sure there is enough space between the holes and the edge.

Step 2: Cut 25cm lengths of the thick gold wire, one for each hole you drilled. Fold one length of wire in half and push the closed end through one of the holes. Form a small loop on the closed end so the wire doesn't slip out again. Repeat with each hole.

Step 3: Spread the open ends of each length of wire and twist one of the two ends, first around the adjacent length of wire, then back around the other half, to create a wire mesh like the one in the photo.

Step 4: Fill the bowl with compost and plant the mini poinsettias close together. Fill the border around the poinsettias with moss.

Step 5: Around the poinsettias, tuck the winterberry stems into the wire mesh until it is no longer visible.

Step 6: Finally, secure the ends of the winterberry stems to the wire mesh using the thin wire so that they don't stick out. Tip: Make sure to angle all the stems in the same direction so that they form a circular shape. This creates the impression of a swirl when you look at the arrangement from above.

Place the finished poinsettia bowl in a bright place indoors, protected from draughts. Water sparingly to avoid waterlogging.

A bowl planted with mini poinsettias and decorated with winterberry stems makes a beautiful centrepiece that will brighten up any room. With a little skill, you can create this festive DIY idea yourself.
