Give the Gift of Live Experiences: Why Concert and Theatre Tickets Make Brilliant Christmas Presents

Give the gift of unforgettable experiences this Christmas with concert and theatre tickets. A thoughtful, clutter-free present perfect for every budget and every personality.

If you’re searching for a Christmas present that feels thoughtful, exciting, and wonderfully personal, tickets to a live concert or theatre performance are a fantastic choice.

They offer far more than a wrapped gift under the tree, they give your loved one something to look forward to long after the decorations have come down.

Here’s why gifting live experiences is fast becoming one of the most cherished Christmas trends.

A Gift That Creates Memories, Not Clutter

We all know someone who’s impossible to buy for. They don’t want more “things”, and you don’t want your carefully chosen present gathering dust. Tickets solve that dilemma beautifully.

A concert, a play, a West End musical, comedy night, panto, or even an intimate acoustic gig becomes a memory the recipient will treasure for years. Experiences linger long after the wrapping paper is gone.

Perfect for Every Personality

One of the joys of gifting tickets is how easily they can be tailored to the recipient:

Music fan? Choose from rock, indie, classical, or even a nostalgic reunion tour.

Theatre lover? Go big with a West End blockbuster or discover a charming, more local, local production.

Comedy enthusiast? Book a night of stand-up to guarantee laughs well into the new year.

Children and families? Pantos and family musicals in December and January are magical crowd-pleasers.

There truly is something for everyone.

Ideal for Last-Minute Shoppers

Even the most well-organised Christmas shopper hits a brick wall now and then. If you suddenly realise you’re missing a gift, e-tickets come to the rescue. Many venues offer instant digital delivery, printable gift certificates, or even beautifully designed email tickets you can forward or pop into a card.

No frantic dash to the shops necessary!

A Thoughtful Way to Spend Time Together

Gifting experiences can also be a lovely way to schedule quality time. Choose two tickets and enjoy a shared day or evening out. For parents, grandparents, friends, partners, it’s a heart-warming way to strengthen connections.

If you’re giving the gift solo, you can always add a suggestion:

“Go and enjoy this on me – you deserve a brilliant night out.”

Options for All Budgets

Live experiences aren’t just for luxury gift-givers. You can tailor your ticket choices to suit your budget:

Local theatre performances

Off-peak shows

Tribute acts

Smaller venues and up-and-coming performers

Afternoon matinees

Comedy clubs

And for bigger budgets, you can choose premium seats, VIP packages, or pre-show dining add-ons.

How to Package Your Ticket Gift

Even e-tickets can feel festive with a little imagination. Try:

Tucking the printed confirmation into a Christmas card.

Popping it into a small gift box with some chocolates or a mini ornament.

Creating a fun “open me after Christmas” envelope.

Pairing theatre tickets with a themed gift — a mug for a tea-loving theatre fan, or a band’s album for a music lover.

Small touches make the reveal feel even more special.

Inspire Joy Long After Christmas

The magic of this gift is that it's not over on Boxing Day. Your recipient has a wonderful night out to look forward to — a perfect boost in the quieter winter months.

Whether it’s a roaring comedy night, a glittering musical, or the thrill of hearing favourite songs performed live, gifting tickets shows thought, effort, and affection.

And best of all? No returns queue is required.

For Christmas one year the family gifted my father a ticket to a Sammy Davis Jnr performance and also paid for his train fare and an overnight booking at a hotel near the theatre.

Gifting Magazine Subscriptions: The Christmas Present That Lasts All Year

Give a thoughtful Christmas gift that lasts all year with magazine subscriptions. Discover why they make meaningful, personalised presents for everyone on your list.

We recently mention the idea of gifting a subscription to the weekly magazine Country Life (the only magazine my wife subscribes to!) which we covered here: https://thatschristmas.blogspot.com/2025/11/why-weekly-country-life-subscription.html)

But that set me thinking. What about gift subscriptions to other magazines?

When you’re searching for a Christmas present that’s thoughtful, personal, and wonderfully easy to wrap, a magazine subscription is a brilliant choice.

It’s the kind of gift that continues to delight long after the decorations have come down. Whether your recipient is a foodie, a gardener, a fashion enthusiast or a history buff, there’s a publication to match every passion.

Why Magazine Subscriptions Make Exceptional Gifts

Magazine subscriptions stand out because they offer:

A whole year of joy

Instead of a single moment of unwrapping, your loved one receives regular issues filled with inspiration, ideas and entertainment.

A personalised touch

There’s something intimate about selecting a title that reflects someone’s interests. It shows you’ve taken the time to think about what they enjoy.

A fuss-free option

No queues, no frantic last-minute dashes to the shops. Subscriptions can usually be arranged online in a matter of minutes, making them ideal for organised shoppers and late planners alike.

Great Picks for Christmas 2025

Not sure where to begin? These categories are always popular:

For the home cook

Food magazines offer recipes, technique guides and seasonal inspiration. Perfect for anyone who loves pottering in the kitchen.

For the avid gardener

Titles covering plants, wildlife, and plot management are excellent for green-fingered friends and family.

For the style lover

Fashion and beauty magazines provide trend updates, product reviews and creative ideas to keep readers inspired all year.

For the traveller

Travel magazines carry readers across the globe with destination guides, cultural features and inspiring photography.

For the hobbyist

Whether it’s crafts, history, cars, interiors, fitness or photography, there’s a magazine that covers it in depth.

A Sustainable, Clutter-Free Choice

Magazine subscriptions, especially digital versions, are a thoughtful alternative to physical gifts that create clutter. Even print copies are increasingly eco-friendly, with many publishers using responsible paper and inks.

How to Present the Gift

Although subscriptions are delivered throughout the year, you can still make the unwrapping moment special. Try:

Printing the confirmation and popping it into a festive card

Creating a small gift box with a themed token (a gardening glove, a bookmark, a packet of fancy tea)

Adding a handwritten note explaining why you chose that specific title for them

A Gift That Truly Keeps Giving

In a world full of gadgets and novelty items, a magazine subscription feels refreshingly meaningful. It’s a way of giving someone a regular dose of enjoyment, information and inspiration—straight through their letterbox or onto their tablet or phone.

If you want to give a present that sparks joy every month of the year, a magazine subscription might just be the perfect choice this Christmas.

Gifting Cookery Books to the Budding Chefs in Your Life This Christmas

Discover why cookery books make thoughtful, inspiring Christmas gifts for the budding chefs in your life, with tips on choosing the perfect title for every skill level and culinary passion.

If you’ve someone in your life who lights up at the sight of a spice rack, spends Saturday mornings glued to cooking shows, or excitedly experiments with new recipes, then a cookery book is one of the most thoughtful Christmas gifts you can give.

For aspiring home cooks, a well-chosen book isn’t just a present – it’s an invitation to explore new flavours, build skills, and find joy in the kitchen all year round.

Personal story here. Several years ago my wife got chatting to the grandson of a friend of hers. He was a puzzle to his family as he was very passionate about cooking. My wife gifted him a range of cookery books which he was very grateful for, bless him!

The last thing we heard was that he was going to learn cookery at a catering college. Imagine our surprise and pleasure when the next time we saw him he was presenting a cookery show on a TV cookery channel!

So, here’s how to choose the perfect culinary page-turner for the budding chefs on your Christmas list.

Why Cookery Books Make Brilliant Christmas Gifts

They inspire creativity:

A good cookbook sparks imagination. Whether it’s mastering sourdough, whipping up plant-based feasts, or exploring global cuisines, books provide a world of inspiration that stretches far beyond Christmas dinner.

They build confidence:

Step-by-step instructions, helpful notes, and clear techniques give new cooks the knowledge they need to grow. Many modern books are packed with QR codes for video tutorials, too.

They last for years:

Unlike fad gadgets, cookery books become trusted companions. Margins get scribbled in, pages get splattered, and favourite recipes become part of family tradition.

They suit every personality:

From minimalist “five-ingredient” guides to glorious food encyclopaedias, there truly is a cookbook for everyone.

Cookery Books That Make Perfect Gifts

Here are some brilliant categories to help you pick a book your recipient will treasure.

1. For the Absolute Beginner

Choose books that explain everything clearly without overwhelming:

Simple step-by-step recipe collections

Titles that focus on basic techniques (chopping, roasting, seasoning)

Student or budget-friendly cookbooks

These offer the perfect foundation for those just finding their feet in the kitchen.

2. For the Adventurous Foodie

If your budding chef loves to experiment:

Books exploring global cuisines such as Thai, Middle Eastern, Indian, or West African

Guides to fermentation, pickling, or artisan baking

Niche titles like ramen, tapas, or spice blends

These gifts open up entire worlds of flavour.

3. For the Sweet-Toothed Baker

Many new cooks fall in love with baking first:

Cake and biscuit bibles

Pastry and patisserie guides

Chocolate-focused cookbooks

Family-friendly baking books

Baking books are particularly lovely Christmas gifts thanks to their cosy, indulgent feel.

4. For the Healthy Home Cook

If they’re keen on balance and wellbeing:

Air fryer cookbooks

Mediterranean diet guides

Low-sugar, plant-based, or high-protein recipes

Quick weeknight meals

These books help them build everyday habits that feel achievable and delicious.

5. For the Aspiring Entertainer

Perfect for the host-in-training:

Dinner party books

Seasonal and festive recipe collections

Guides focused on sharing platters, grazing boards, and cocktails

Books themed around special occasions

They’ll be ready to impress at next year’s Christmas lunch in no time.

Pairing Your Cookbook with a Thoughtful Extra

A little something extra can make your gift feel even more special:

A pretty wooden spoon or spatula

A festive apron

A set of measuring spoons

A spice selection to accompany a global-cuisine book

A baking tin or cake tester for a baking fan

These small touches turn a book into a whole experience.

Choosing a Book They’ll Truly Love

When selecting a cookbook, consider:

Their skill level – no point gifting a complex French tome to someone who’s just learned to fry an egg. (I bought my sister a Ladybird "We Can Cook Book" when she was a child. Now she has a husband and family of her own and she still uses recipes from that book today.)

Their interests – baking, curries, healthy eating, plant-based cooking, gadgets, entertaining.

Their lifestyle – busy parents may prefer quick meals; students may want budget recipes.

Taking a moment to personalise your gift makes it far more meaningful.

A Gift That Lasts Beyond Christmas

A cookery book is more than a collection of recipes – it’s a source of joy, comfort, and discovery. It can encourage someone to take their first confident steps in the kitchen, inspire new traditions, and even spark a lifelong passion.

This Christmas, give the budding chefs in your life something that will warm their hearts and fill their kitchens with delicious aromas long after the decorations come down. A well-chosen cookbook is a gift that keeps on giving.

Gifting Floral Display Subscriptions: A Beautiful Christmas Surprise

"Discover why floral display subscriptions make a thoughtful, uplifting Christmas gift. Explore UK options, seasonal styles, and how to surprise loved ones with blooms that last all year."

Christmas gifting is all about delighting the people you love with something thoughtful, elegant, and, ideally, something that lasts beyond the festive season.

If you’re searching for a present that feels personal, uplifting, and indulgent without being extravagant, a floral display subscription is a wonderful choice.

Whether it’s a monthly bouquet, seasonal arrangements, or curated letterbox flowers, this is a gift that keeps on giving long after the tree is packed away.

Why Choose a Floral Subscription as a Christmas Gift?

1. It Brightens Their Home All Year Long

A fresh arrangement arriving every few weeks is a guaranteed mood-booster. January and February in particular can feel rather grey, and a bouquet arriving on the doorstep brings instant cheer.

2. It Suits Just About Everyone

Friends, parents, grandparents, colleagues, or that one person who “has everything”—flowers are universally enjoyed. Many services also let you tailor the frequency, style, and even colour palette.

3. It’s Surprisingly Budget-Friendly

Subscriptions can start from under £20 per delivery, making it an affordable luxury. You can choose short-term (three-month) gifting plans if you want to keep to a particular budget.

4. It Supports UK Growers and Small Florists

More companies now champion seasonal, British-grown blooms. If you want to shop sustainably and support local businesses, this is a lovely way to do it.

Types of Floral Subscriptions to Consider

Monthly Bouquets

A classic option. Recipients receive beautifully arranged, hand-tied bouquets each month, often themed to the season—think frosty whites in winter or vibrant tulips in spring.

Letterbox Flowers

Convenient, fuss-free, and perfect if the recipient is often out during the day. These arrive flat-packed and are arranged at home—ideal for the creative types.

Seasonal Luxury Arrangements

Some florists send larger displays at key points in the year—Christmas, early spring, summer and autumn—perfect for those who love statement florals.

Dried Flower Subscriptions

Long-lasting and wonderfully stylish. A great choice for people who love modern décor or who prefer low-maintenance arrangements.

Appleyard London

How to Present the Gift on Christmas Day

Even though the flowers arrive later, you’ll want something to wrap. A few ideas:

Print or write a lovely card explaining the subscription.

Include a small, festive bunch or a single rose with ribbon.

Add a decorative envelope or gift box with dried flowers inside.

Slip in a note telling them when to expect their first delivery.

It’s a beautiful reveal, and the anticipation makes it even more special.

The Perfect Gift for a Fresh Start

A floral display subscription is more than a bouquet—it’s an ongoing gesture of appreciation, joy, and colour. It’s the perfect way to brighten someone’s year, lift their spirits, and give them a reason to smile in the quieter months after Christmas.

For a present that lasts and brings happiness with every delivery, a floral subscription is truly a blooming marvellous choice.

Gifts for the Gardeners in Your Life: Christmas Inspiration for Green-Fingered Loved Ones

Looking for the perfect present for someone who lives for their garden?

Whether they’re pottering about with perennials, nurturing a veg patch, or transforming a small balcony into a leafy sanctuary, gardeners are a joy to shop for at Christmastime.

Practical tools, thoughtful accessories and seasonal treats make charming and useful gifts that will brighten their winter and prepare them for spring.

Here are some festive ideas to inspire your gift list.

1. A Quality Pair of Gardening Gloves

A well-made pair of gardening gloves is always appreciated. Look for durable leather gloves for heavy jobs, or soft, breathable cotton options for delicate pruning. Many shops offer gloves in lovely prints and festive colours, making them a cheerful stocking filler.

2. Seed Collections and Growing Kits

Seeds are the promise of spring wrapped in an envelope. Curate a bundle of heritage varieties, pollinator-friendly blooms or veg-patch essentials. Alternatively, choose ready-made growing kits—windowsill herbs, mushroom grow kits, or chilli-growing sets are especially fun for beginners and seasoned gardeners alike.

3. Personalised Tools and Accessories

From engraved trowels to monogrammed tool belts, personalised gifts add a special touch. They’re practical, sentimental and sure to be used regularly. A customised plant marker set is a lovely option for those who like everything neatly labelled.

4. Gardening Books for Winter Inspiration

Winter is when gardeners dream and plan. A beautifully illustrated gardening book, an allotment planner or a guide to sustainable growing makes an inspiring gift. Books on wildlife gardening, container gardening, or garden design are perennial favourites.

5. Cosy Outdoor Wear

Help them stay warm during chilly winter pruning sessions with thermal socks, waterproof hats, breathable layers and sturdy boots. A fleece-lined gilet or waterproof jacket makes a thoughtful gift for year-round gardeners.

6. A Bird Feeder or Wildlife Habitat

Gardeners love encouraging nature into their outdoor spaces. Bird feeders, bird baths, insect hotels and hedgehog houses can turn a garden into a haven for wildlife. Choose well-made, weatherproof items that will last for years.

7. Beautiful Pots and Planters

Stylish pots are always in demand. Ceramic planters, terracotta pots, modern concrete styles or decorative indoor planters give gardeners endless ways to display their favourites. Pair with a houseplant or packet of seeds for an easy but elegant gift.

8. A Gardening Subscription Box

A monthly delivery of seeds, bulbs, tools or seasonal guides brings joy throughout the year. Subscription boxes suit all skill levels and keep gardeners inspired well after the Christmas decorations come down.

9. Practical Tools That Make Life Easier

Every gardener has a wish list of tools—secateurs, kneeling pads, long-handled weeders, bulb planters, propagators, soil testers and more. Choose reputable brands for items that will stand up to years of use.

10. A Garden Centre Gift Card

Can’t decide? Let them choose exactly what they want. A voucher from a local garden centre is a no-fail option and supports local businesses at the same time.

A Gift that Grows All Year

Gardeners are thoughtful, patient and passionate, and Christmas is the perfect time to nurture their hobby. Whether you’re shopping for a novice grower or a seasoned allotment keeper, a gardening-themed gift is a lovely way to brighten their winter and celebrate their love of the outdoors.

"Perfect for the Christmas Season" The Original Black Garlic Expands Premium Range with Black Lemon and New Umami Products

The original creators of black garlic launch five new products as aged ingredients gain mainstream appeal.

The Original Black Garlic announces a significant expansion of its product range with the introduction of Black Lemon Slices, Black Lemon Powder, Black Garlic Ketchup, Black Garlic Pickle, and Black Garlic Powder.

The launch follows a brand refresh earlier this year and reflects surging consumer demand for both black garlic products and the health benefits associated with naturally aged ingredients.

The Original Black Garlic's core range, including peeled cloves, whole bulbs, and paste, has become a staple in kitchens nationwide, with black garlic now featured in offerings from major names including Heinz, Tyrrells Crisps, Boursin Cheese, and Doritos.

Introducing Black Lemon: A Middle Eastern Tradition Meets British Innovation

A cornerstone of the new range is The Original Black Lemon, a premium aged ingredient popular in Middle Eastern cuisine. Made from fresh lemons slowly aged with nothing but heat and time, no additives or preservatives, black lemon delivers a bright yet balanced flavour profile with zesty citrus notes, gentle bitterness, and a touch of subtle spice.

Available in both slices and powder form, black lemon offers versatile culinary applications:

Enhance hot or cold beverages

Transform sauces, marinades, soups, and stews

Add citrus depth to baking and cocktails

Create striking garnishes for festive drinks and cakes

Nutritional Powerhouse

Through the slow ageing process, black lemon's nutrients are not only preserved but concentrated. The Original Black Lemon contains over four times more vitamin C than fresh lemon and is naturally high in fibre and potassium.

Perfect for the Festive Season

The new Black Garlic Ketchup and Black Garlic Pickle complement the expanded range, offering instant umami flavour to any dish. "These products are perfect for the Christmas season," Katy Heath, CEO & Founder, told That's Christmas 365.

"Whether you're elevating your festive roast with black garlic, adding black lemon to seasonal cocktails, or gifting our ketchup and pickle to foodie friends and family, these naturally aged ingredients bring something special to the table."

Growing Market Recognition

Black garlic's transition from chef's secret to mainstream ingredient reflects a broader shift in consumer preferences toward premium, naturally produced foods with proven health benefits. The appearance of black garlic in products from household names signals growing market maturity and consumer acceptance.

"We're seeing unprecedented interest in aged ingredients," adds Holly Daniels, Sales & Marketing Director. "What began as curiosity about black garlic has evolved into genuine demand across retail, food service, and manufacturing. This expansion allows us to meet that demand while introducing consumers to black lemon — an ingredient we believe will follow a similar trajectory."

The new range is available now at www.blackgarlic.co.uk.

About The Original Black Garlic The Original Black Garlic is Europe's creator of naturally aged black garlic and black lemon products. Using traditional ageing methods with no additives or preservatives, the company produces premium ingredients favoured by chefs, home cooks, and food manufacturers nationwide.

What is Black Garlic? Black garlic is regular white garlic that has been aged over several weeks in carefully controlled heat and humidity. This natural process transforms the cloves, creating a soft, sweet texture and complex umami flavour with notes of balsamic, molasses, and caramel, without the pungency of white garlic.

Product Range:

Black Garlic: Peeled Cloves, Whole Bulbs, Paste, Powder, Ketchup, Pickle

Black Lemon: Slices, Powder
