Served neat, over ice or to create deliciously evocative festive cocktails perfect for the party season, the UK's first B Corp certified rum, Hattiers' three premium aged rums also make wonderful gifts and stocking fillers.

Specialising in sourcing finste blended aged rums from around the globe, which they sustainably blend in Devon, their unique rums include Egremont Premium Reserve Rum, Eminence Blended Aged White Rum and Resolute Navy Strength Rum.

Not only do Hattiers' rums taste exquisite, with six awards from the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) to prove it, they're also sustainable, plastic free and committed to carbon neutrality, too.

The ultimate Christmas gift for the rum connoisseurs in your life, premium sipping rum Egremont Premium Reserve Rum, is a blend of four cask aged rums hand picked from across the Caribbean and Central America and gently paired with pure soft spring water from the hills of Dartmoor.

Filtered by layer upon layer of ancient granite, Dartmoor spring water balances the alcoholic strength of the base rums to a more accessible level and produces a long and creamy finish.  A fragrant, medium bodied rum that's complex yet accessible, Egremont is perfect in Hattiers' original Hot Hattiers and The King's Hat Christmas cocktails.  £42.00, 40% ABV, 70 cl.

With a fruity but not sweet taste, gentle nutty pineapple aftertaste and long cream finish, Eminence Blended Aged White Rum is the perfect gift for cocktail loving family, friends or colleagues.  Divine served with mixers too, Eminence is crafted using cask rums from Barbados, Australia, Trinidad and Jamaica and is smooth, light-medium bodied with a great depth of flavour and character.  With light and attractive soft fruit notes and a vanilla pod, creamy fudge and ripe pineapple aroma, it has been carefully carbon filtered to remove the colour while maintaining the impact of the barrel.  £37.50, 42% ABV, 70cl.

Guaranteed to pack some punch and sure to make Christmas parties go off with a bang, Hattiers Rums'

Resolute Navy Strength Rum is a blended aged navy strength rum, made using rums from Barbados, Australia, Guyana and Jamaica.  With a toasted brown sugar and charred oak aroma followed by warm banana, on the palate it has an intensity of fruit with pineapple, apple, banana, mango and a buttery pastry taste with darker notes of liquorice which linger.  Wafts of coal smoke drift in on the finish, with a dominance of banana cream.  £56.00, 54.5% ABV, 70cl.

Treat party guests to an exquisite Christmas inspired Hot Hattiers or The King's Hat, or both, at your next festive celebration.

Is Christmas dinner healthy? Experts breakdown what parts of the festive dinner is good for you

Brits celebrating Christmas with the traditional Chirstmas Day feast are being advised on what parts of Christmas Dinner is good for them with red wine and roast potatoes both getting the thumbs up.

Fitness experts at Goal Getters by MuscleFood.com have looked at a classic Christmas dinner and ranked the different parts from most to least healthy.

Vitamin B, Potassium and carotenoids are just some of the nutrients that can be found in roast potatoes, turkey and carrots.

Unfortunately not all parts of our Christmas dinner are healthy including pigs in blankets and stuffing, but that doesn’t mean they don’t belong on our plate.

Ashleigh Tosh from Goal Getters by MuscleFood.com  said: “We’re all about encouraging realistic eating habits and Christmas is a time where you shouldn’t worry about tracking your calories.

“We think people who are trying to reach their fitness goals, whether that’s losing weight or toning up, will find comfort in knowing that your entire Christmas dinner isn’t actually that bad for you.

“Turkey for example is high in protein and also supplies us with those all important B vitamins. Wine lovers will also be glad to know that popping open a bottle of red wine can help regulate cholesterol levels and keep the heart healthy.”

Christmas Dinner breakdown:

Meat

Most of us opt for turkey on Christmas Day as our meat of choice and the good news is this is actually richer in protein than chicken or beef. Turkey and chicken also provide us with important B vitamins which help turn our food into energy.

Roasties

Although it depends on how they are made, roasties tend to be good for you as their high levels of fibre can improve indigestion. Roast potatoes are also really high in potassium which is important as this is a nutrient which our body doesn’t naturally produce. In fact, potatoes actually contain more potassium than a banana.

Brussel sprouts

Love them or hate them, Brussel sprouts are high in nutritional value and definitely worth having on your plate at Christmas. They are high in antioxidants which can protect us from chronic diseases and they contain a compound that helps to block enzymes known to advance cancer growth. Be warned though, they can make you a little gassy.

Carrots

Carrots are high in carotenoids which is a compound found in plants and is known to help the immune system and the ageing process.

Red wine

In moderation, red wine is believed to help regulate cholesterol levels and keep the heart healthy thanks to the antioxidants it contains.

Gravy

Gravy may not be the healthiest part of your Christmas menu but it’s also not as bad as we think. Gravy is traditionally made from the juices that meats release when being cooked. Making gravy this way means your sauce is likely to be high in fats and salt. Most of us these days tend to use gravy stock instead which is a great way to reduce the amount of fat and salt in the sauce.

Stuffing

Stuffing is a combination of things like breadcrumbs, onions and herbs and unfortunately it’s not the healthiest part of our Christmas dinner but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it. If you are interested in a healthier version then consider making your stuffing the vegetarian way using more dry fruits and nuts.

If you prefer a store bought powder then just remember that these tend to be high in salt so you definitely won’t need to add your own.

Pigs in blankets

Pigs in blankets are arguably the nation's favourite part of a Christmas dinner but unfortunately this combination of red meat is heavily processed meaning it falls to the bottom of the list.

'Double Strength' CBD Drinks to Go on Sale Nationwide: Counterculture Hits the Tesco Counter

The CBD ready-to-drinks are available in three delicious and unique flavours, Elderflower and Yuzu, Raspberry & Guava and Blood Orange & Grapefruit. 30mg of premium Colorado-grown CBD, a healthy injection of Vitamin D and just 33 calories in every can makes this a tasty and low-calorie way to experience true relaxation. All the drinks are 100% vegan.

Tesco will stock the flavours in 188 stores nationwide within the functional drinks sections of the 'Extra' and 'superstore' format stores, as well as having wide distribution online. Goodrays also suggests trying as a 'lunchtime grab & go' for extra zen on a lunchbreak, a 'mid-afternoon functional' to increase focus and productivity, and as a 'post-work wind-down.' A 4 pack will cost £7.50.

Eoin Keenan, Founder of Goodrays says: “Our mission is to make high-quality CBD accessible, mainstream and widely understood, and to have a listing in Tesco, the UK's largest retailer, is genuinely a dream come true.

"It's incredibly exciting to be supporting the next wave of innovation in functional drinks and it shows that the health benefits of CBD have begun to be more widely accepted. Consumers will now have access to effective, single dose portions of CBD in delicious and easily adoptable formats, making the category more readily available to everyone. This is a huge move for us: this is our first supermarket listing and we look forward to many more coming up soon.

The quality and effectiveness of our product is down to the higher dose of 30mg of CBD in each can. The majority of human studies that demonstrate how CBD can help to decrease stress and anxiety begin at a minimum of 20 mg dosages and we believe that like a cup of tea or coffee or a glass of kombucha, consumers should have the full benefits in a single product.”

Modern consumers are changing their habits. They're looking beyond convention for alternative ways to enjoy life, seeking better ways to unwind, socialise and reward themselves. Historically these consumers sought escapism. Today, though, they are defined by the pursuit of wellness, relaxation and calm. They connect with purpose-led brands, glorify nature, choose 'made' over 'manufactured' and prioritise their betterment, mentally and physically. CBD Drinks are an easy way to start your relaxation journey.”

Visit https://www.goodrays.com/ for more information. Goodrays also produces CBD Oils and CBD Gummies.

Your children will hear Santa on the roof!

25 years ago, Macadins Company created and released a recording of what it might sound like to hear a magical rooftop visit from Santa on Christmas Eve.

This recording has become a holiday tradition for many families and in its 25th year of production, "Santa on the Roof" is easily downloadable to any Computer, Tablet or Cellphone and is certain to continue rewarding listeners with joyous memories of Christmases past and present. "Santa on the Roof" is available for purchase and download now at www.santaontheroof.com.

Your child will hear Santa's sled landing with a thump and gliding to a gentle stop. His footsteps as he walks around the roof, his playful antics with his team of Reindeer and of course Santa enjoying his cookie snack left by the children. And more.

An introductory story sets Santa's visit not as a true recording but as a storybook-like magic fairy tale that took place long-long ago, thus preserving the Santa legend and mystique. This story also allows "Santa on the Roof" to be played for a child anytime during the Holiday Season. More adventurous adults start the recording after the story and get somewhat creative late at night on Christmas Eve.

Spreading Memories

For a quarter century, that's 25 years, parents have been able to provide their children with a magical Christmas Eve rooftop visit with "Santa on the Roof." Watch and enjoy your child's eyes twinkle and dance in delight with awe as their dream to hear the sounds of Santa unfold for the very first time

This Christmas season capture the magic and wonder of Christmas as you share a very special childhood moment with your children. Celebrate memories of what was and help keep alive a historic and delightful Christmas tradition that is as enchanting and awe-inspiring as the event itself.

Customer Comments

Feedback from customers is always sincere and heart-warming with one customer commenting they played it at midnight through hidden speakers and their kids were at the window screaming they saw Rudolf's red nose. Another stated they played it at 2 am as an excuse to go downstairs and get the skis Santa had left him. And finally, an elderly Lady ordered "Santa on the Roof" because she always wondered what it would sound like to hear a sled landing on her roof.

For anyone who loves the Santa tradition and wants to share it with their child or grandchild this recording is a must have.

Macadins is a mail order company headquartered in Wethersfield, Connecticut and has been in business since 1997.

From the kiln to the kitchen: Asda stocks sensational 30-hours smoked Scottish salmon

Young’s Seafood has secured a contract to supply a new Extra Special Blackthorn Dry-Cured Smoked Salmon product to over 450 Asda stores across the UK this festive season.

Established in 1805, over 200 years ago, Young’s Seafood is the UK’s largest specialist seafood brand, and the Extra Special Blackthorn Dry-Cured Smoked Salmon is one of its most decadent launches to date.

The Extra Special, superior grade salmon is hand cured with Ayr-based Blackthorn sea salt flakes, and then undergoes a special 30-hour smoking process. This is more than double the usual smoking time, for a deeper, richer flavour, making the salmon a seasonal sensation not to be missed.

Senior Development Manager at Youngs Seafood, Paul Terris, said: “We've enjoyed a longstanding partnership with Asda and are delighted to bring this exclusive Extra Special product to festive feasts all across the UK this Christmas.

“We're very proud of our Scottish heritage and at our picturesque smokehouse in the far Northeast of Scotland, our smoked salmon experts have spent many months perfecting the production process.

“Our salmon is hand cured with Blackthorn sea salt flakes made in the world’s only working graduation thorn tower in Ayr, using methods that are patient, gentle and sustainable. We're thrilled and delighted to bring this truly Scottish salmon product exclusively to Asda stores across the UK.”

When asked about the dedicated production process, Kenny Noble, who's been a master smoker for over ten years explained, “these kilns really are magic in lots of ways, the smoke adds flavour and helps preserve the salmon”.

Salmon selection

The salmon is hand-selected for its size and condition. All superior grade, global gap accredited, and between 3 and 4kg to ensure the optimum slice size of the end product.

Curing process

Blackthorn salt is manufactured on the west coast of Scotland. Clean and unrefined, the taste of blackthorn salt is sweet, with a mouth-watering tang. The salt crystals are hand-sprinkled over the salmon and left to cure for 12 hours.

Smoking

The cured salmon is hung and smoked in traditional brick kilns. The three woods were selected as trees and shrubs that grow around the famous salmon fishing rivers of Scotland, Alder, Heather, and Sweetgale. The salmon is gently smoked for a total of 30 hours, creating a beautifully deep and complex smoke profile – and the kilns are manned 24 hours a day, all year round.

Slicing and Packing

Once smoked and rested, the salmon is cut into chunky slices. By cutting it this way, it allows people to appreciate the buttery texture of the salmon, which is achieved by the long, slow smoking.

Ashley Connolly, Local Buying Manager at Asda, added: “At Asda, we work alongside some wonderful local suppliers to create innovative, affordable, and delicious products for shoppers to enjoy.

“We are delighted to have such a strong relationship with Youngs, and our customers always love the Extra Special Smoked Salmon products, especially at this time of the year. The Blackthorn Dry-Cured Smoked Salmon will be a fantastic addition to our Extra Special Christmas range in the lead up to the festive season.”

Asda’s Extra Special Blackthorn Dry-Cured Smoked Salmon (£4 from 15th December) is available to purchase in-store and online now at www.asda.com.

Asda reaffirms commitment to UK armed forces

The Asda supermarket company has reaffirmed its support for the UK’s military personnel after again signing the Armed Forces Covenant.

The supermarket, which first signed the covenant back in 2014, will continue to guarantee interviews for ex-servicemen and women who meet the minimum criteria for a role, provide leave for reservists’ training, support cadet training as well as supporting employment opportunities for service spouses and partners.

Asda has already hired over 1,000 new colleagues from the armed forces service leaver community this year and signed the covenant at its High Wycombe store. Air Marshall Sir Richard Knighton, Deputy Commander Capability, Royal Air Force signed on behalf of the Armed Forces, while Helen Selby, General Counsel & Company Secretary and former veteran, signed on behalf of Asda.

Sir Rich Knighton said: “Asda recognises the valuable skills and qualities of ex-Serving military personnel that are easily transferable to many sectors, including that of retail. Offering a wide-range of opportunities, whether IT and technology or logistics and planning, Asda’s re-signing of the Military Covenant highlights their continued commitment to supporting those Veterans and Reservists that have served our nation.”

Helen Selby, said: “Veterans bring a host of unique skills and experience that are vitally important to businesses such as ours. We are proud to continue our support for armed forces and help ex-personnel back into work and civilian life.”

The announcement comes a few weeks after Veterans into Logistics received a funding boost of £40,000 from Asda, that will enable the charity to train 10 armed forces veterans into new careers as HGV Drivers.

The charity has a two-year established partnership with Asda Logistics Services who support their mission of preventing homelessness and unemployment in the veteran community.

This significant donation from Asda will help to provide training and mentoring for the veterans to pass their HGV licences, resulting in new driving careers.

Asda was recently recognised for its efforts to employ former armed forces personnel when it was once again given the silver award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

The supermarket also hosted a veteran Employment & Networking event in early November which saw over 100 attendees from the service leaver community and local businesses in Leeds.
